Abaya Size Guide

Most AUVÉ abayas are made in a Free Size (One Size) cut, designed to drape elegantly across a range of body shapes while keeping full modest coverage. A few occasion styles are offered in numbered lengths, so always check the size option shown on the product page before you order.

How AUVÉ sizing works

• Free Size / One Size. Most of our abayas are cut loosely and fall beautifully on a wide range of heights and shapes.
• Two-piece and layered styles. These include an inner dress in AU/UK sizing and a matching hijab. Select your usual AU/UK size for the inner dress.
• Numbered lengths. Selected occasion pieces come in lengths such as 54 to 60. Where this applies, the sizes appear on the product page.

Our reference measurements

Our Free Size abayas are cut to the following reference measurements. Please allow a tolerance of up to 0.5 inch, as each piece is finished by hand.

How to measure yourself

• Length. Measure from the top of your shoulder near the neckline down to where you want the abaya to end, usually the ankle.
• Bust. Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, kept level across the back, snug but not tight.
• Shoulders. Measure straight across from the edge of one shoulder to the other.
• Sleeves. Measure from the shoulder edge down to your wrist.

Choosing your size

• If your measurements fall between sizes, choose the next size up.
• If you plan to wear heels, size up so the length still skims the ankle.
• An abaya should reach the ankle without dragging on the floor.
• For two-piece styles, pick your usual AU/UK size for the inner dress.

The fabrics we use

Cashmere touch

Our signature cashmere touch weave has a soft, warm hand feel and a refined matte finish. It drapes fluidly and holds an elegant silhouette, which is why it features in our Signature collection.

Crepe

A lightweight fabric with a gentle texture and beautiful movement. Crepe is breathable and hangs well, making it ideal for everyday wear in the Gulf climate.

Layered and two-piece fabrics

Our layered abayas pair a light, airy outer layer with a smooth inner dress, giving a soft, flowing look while remaining comfortable to wear.

General care principles

• Dry clean, or hand wash gently in cold water. Avoid machine washing where possible.
• Do not wring or twist. Press gently to remove excess water.
• Reshape and hang to dry away from direct sunlight to protect the colour.
• Iron on a low setting, or steam, ideally on the reverse of the fabric.
• Store on a padded hanger to keep the shoulders and drape in shape.
• Keep perfume and deodorant off the fabric, as they can mark delicate weaves.

Care by fabric

• Cashmere touch. Professional dry cleaning is preferred. Steam rather than iron to protect the finish.
• Crepe. Gentle cold hand wash, cool iron. Hangs out most creases naturally.
• Embellished, crystal and feather styles. Professional cleaning only. Spot clean small marks with care and store with a cover.

Storage

Keep your abayas in a breathable garment bag rather than plastic, on a padded hanger, in a cool, dry place. This protects the fabric and keeps each piece ready to wear.

An abaya is a full length outer garment worn for modest coverage. Styles differ mainly by how they open, how they are layered and the occasion they are made for. Here are the main types of abaya, and where to find each one at AUVÉ.

Open front abaya

An abaya that opens down the front, worn over an inner dress or outfit. It creates a sculpted, elegant silhouette and is easy to style. See our open front abayas.

Closed (pull over) abaya

A one-piece abaya that slips over the head with no front opening, offering a clean, seamless line and full coverage.

Two-piece and layered abaya

A set that pairs a flowing outer abaya with a matching inner dress, and often a hijab. The layers add movement and make the piece ready to wear as a complete look.

Three-piece abaya set
